Newcastle United could be fighting for survival again in the Premier League this season.
The former Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea midfielder believes that Newcastle do not have the players to get things right when results are not favourable.
Hoddle said on BT Sport: “I am not sure they have got the right personnel in there to really roll their sleeves up and say, ‘Hang on, let’s take this on. Let’s get a little run going’. And that’s my concern.”
Harsh comments?
Newcastle do not have the best of squads in the Premier League and are likely to be fighting for survival in the Premier League come May 2020.
However, the Magpies do have players who have been fighting for survival in the English top flight.
The likes of Paul Dummett, Jamaal Lascelles, Jonjo Shelvey, Isaac Hayden and Rob Elliot have been at Newcastle for a while and know all about relegation battles.
Moreover, the Magpies have some flair and quality in attack in Joelinton and Miguel Almiron.
Winning against Tottenham Hotspur
Meanwhile, Newcastle defender Paul Dummett has said that he and his teammates had something to prove against Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend following a disappointing start to the season.
Steve Bruce’s side won 1-0 against Tottenham away from home at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in North London in the Premier League on Sunday evening.
Dummett told BBC Sport: “We had something to prove. It was not good enough last week. We have talked about it and knew we had to change it. We know we have to work together and we have done that. It’s a credit to everyone involved. If you switch off and wake one mistake that could lead to you losing. We have had to put in a lot of work, it was very tough.
“Being a club like Newcastle, you always have that pressure but we have a good bunch of player and we will always work hard to get the performances and the points. We came up with a game plan from start to finish and we managed to not give them any chances.”
