Glenn Hoddle gave his take on the dismissal of Arsenal defender David Luiz against Wolverhampton Wanderers on BT Sport 1 (6:58pm, February 2, 2021).
Luiz started for Arsenal in their Premier League game against Wolves away from home at the Molineux Stadium this evening.
The Brazilian central defender was dismissed in the third minute of first-half injury time.
The former Chelsea star was adjudged to have clipped Willian Jose inside the Arsenal penalty box.
Luiz was chasing the Wolves striker, who had been played through on goal, and it appeared that the Arsenal defender actually did not mean to commit the foul.
Anyway, Luiz was sent off and a penalty was awarded. Ruben Neves made no mistake from the spot.

Tottenham Hotspur legend Hoddle was following the match for BT Sports, and he gave his take on the incident.
Hoddle said on BT Sport 1 (6:58pm, February 2, 2021): “David Luiz is trying desperately not to make a tackle, not to make contact, but there was contact made. It’s a goalscoring opportunity that he has taken away.
“No, I don’t think he did (mean to touch Willian Jose). I don’t think he did. And I think the rules, you know, if you attempt to make a tackle, then you would probably get a better result, you would probably get a yellow. But at the end of the day, he’s stepping out of the way.”
Disappointing result for Arsenal
Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno was sent off in the second half, as Mikel Arteta’s side lost 2-1.
It was a very disappointing result for the Gunners, who will return to action on Saturday when they face Aston Villa away from home at Villa Park in the Premier League.
