Queens Park Rangers coach Glenn Hoddle underlines Arsenal’s problems in defence.
Tottenham Hotspur legend Glenn Hoddle has said that defensive problems are stopping Arsenal from becoming a major European force.
The Queens Park Rangers coach believes that Arsene Wenger’s side have a strong attacking line-up but lack in defensive quality.
‘They will always be a threat going forward’, Hoddle told Sky Sports when asked if the rest of Europe view Arsenal as a threat.
‘Now (Alexis) Sanchez and (Danny) Welbeck are there, they have got a focal point in the 18-yard box… With Sanchez and Welbeck, they have elevated that opportunity to threaten people…
‘I don’t see how they can defend against the top teams’.
Hoddle made the comments before Arsenal’s Champions League Group D game against Anderlecht at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday.
The Gunners were favourites to win the contest, but they ended up picking up just a point.
The Premier League outfit were 3-0 ahead by the hour mark, thanks to goals from Mikel Arteta, Alexis Sanchez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, but they conceded three times thereafter to be held to a 3-3 draw.
It was a hugely disappointing result for Arsenal, who once again showed their defensive frailties.
However, the good news for the Arsenal fans is that the team will still qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League.
Despite the draw, Arsenal remain second in Group D with seven points from four matches, five points behind leaders Borussia Dortmund.
Anderlecht are five points behind Arsenal in third, which means that the North London club will progress from the group if they pick up a point from their final two matches.
