Glenn Hoddle has posted on Twitter for the first time since suffering a cardiac arrest to congratulate Tottenham Hotspur after their draw against Barcelona proved enough to qualify for the Champions League knockout stages.

Towards the end of October, former England and Tottenham manager Hoddle collapsed while working with BT Sport on his 61st birthday. He later underwent surgery and was finally allowed to return home on November 23.

He is continuing his recovery at home, where he watched Spurs take on Barcelona for a place in the last 16 of the Champions League. The north Londoners had to match Inter Milan’s result against PSV Eindhoven to qualify.

Spurs drew 1-1 with Barca thanks to Lucas Moura’s late goal, while Inter failed to beat PSV at the San Siro – also drawing 1-1. Hoddle broke his Twitter silence since his cardiac arrest – joking: “That just wasn’t good for my recovery.”

Spurs went 1-0 down early on after a mistake by Kyle Walker-Peters saw Ousmane Dembele score an excellent solo goal. After the strike, Spurs dominated and should have scored more than just Moura’s late effort.

Son Heung-min, Danny Rose and Christian Eriksen all had golden chances to beat Jasper Cillessen but could not find the net, before Harry Kane’s low cross was converted by Moura in the 85th minute.

PSV had taken the lead through Hirving Lozano before Mauro Icardi equalised in the last 20 minutes, but they could not find a winner – meaning Moura’s goal sees Spurs qualify for the last 16.
