The Rangers midfielder is a long-time pal of the former Charlton man.

Joe Aribo of Rangers is seen in action during the pre season friendly match between Rangers and Oxford United at Ibrox Stadium on July 07, 2019 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Glen Kamara has revealed that he was in touch with Joe Aribo about signing for Rangers prior to the midfielder’s arrival at Ibrox this summer, The Scottish Sun report.

The former Dundee and Arsenal man spoke at length about his previous relationship with the summer signing, talking about playing informal five-a-side matches with the player in the past, as well as having mutual friends.

Aribo signed for Rangers after the expiration of his Charlton contract and Kamara may have even had a role in convincing him to join.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, the 23-year-old said: “I messaged him and told him what it was like and tried to encourage him to come.

“He asked me a lot of questions about Rangers. I told him the expectations were massive and it’s a big club, the fans are crazy.”

Kamara has been a massive hit at the Gers since signing from the Dees in January, emerging as something of a shock regular in Steven Gerrard’s team from the start.

His dynamic midfield displays have made him a bit of a fan favourite, with some feeling like he was one of the prime bargains of Gerrard’s transfer business last season.

Aribo is well on his way to being in that category too, showing initial glimpses of real quality in the Rangers team.

A player with a bit more attacking ambition than his fives friend, Aribo has already netted two goals in his short Ibrox career.

Having signed for a compensation fee, he could soon be considered as much of, if not more of, a bargain than Kamara.

The duo are in direct competition for midfield places but could complement each other well in the middle of the park if given the opportunity.

It’ll be interesting to see how both develop and progress over the next 12 months.
