Glen Johnson has said on Premier League Productions that Tottenham Hotspur head coach Jose Mourinho will not care that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has signed a new contract.
Tottenham will take on City at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
The Citizens announced on Thursday that Guardiola has signed a new two-year contract that will see him stay at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2023.
Johnson worked with Mourinho at Chelsea, and the former England international right-back believes that although the contract news will give confidence to City, it will not affect Tottenham or his former manager.
The Englishman said on Premier League Productions: “It is certainly a positive. Of course, they (Manchester City) will have a boost for sure, but I just think Tottenham are not going to care about that, Jose is not going to care about that.
“He knows he has got his players in a good position. He has got them playing his way, not leaking in as many goals, they are getting wins that they probably would have drawn or lost last season.”
Big game
Tottenham are in good form at the moment and will be confident of winning against City at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The Citizens are five points behind second-placed Tottenham in 10th place and need to put together a run of positive results in the coming weeks to challenge defending champions Liverpool for the Premier League title.
Mourinho and Guardiola are old rivals, and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top this weekend.
