Glenn Hoddle told the Kelly and Wrighty show that Tottenham midfielder Moussa Sissoko isn’t a ‘great player with the ball’ at his feet.

The Spurs legend did acknowledge that Sissoko is ‘fantastic’ from a defensive standpoint, as he highlighted the Chelsea game from the weekend.

There’s no doubt that Jose Mourinho’s system suits someone like Sissoko because he is more defensive orientated than others.

Hoddle shared his brief thoughts on the Frenchman, who has become a key part of this powerful and no-nonsense midfield that Mourinho has built.

“Sissoko, who I don’t think is a great player with the ball,” said Hoddle. “But he is doing a fantastic defensive job going almost into a back three. Making it a back three against Chelsea, defensively.”

It has been some journey for Sissoko at Tottenham following his £30 million move from Newcastle in 2016 [BBC Sport].

When he initially joined, Sissoko struggled for form and found it difficult to start his engine in a team that was driving forward at speed and with flair under Mauricio Pochettino

Ironically enough, it was during the last 18 months of Pochettino’s reign, when Spurs began to stagnate did their fans begin to see the best out of the versatile midfielder.
