Glasgow Rangers were beaten 2-1 by Celtic at Ibrox in their most recent match.
Glasgow Rangers winger Barrie McKay has told the Glasgow Evening Times that Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers praised him on the pitch after the Old-Firm derby.
Celtic beat Rangers 2-1 at Ibrox on New Year’s Eve, and amidst the celebrations from the Bhoys, Rodgers wandered over towards McKay.
The Northern Irish boss then complimented the 22-year-old’s performance in the encounter between the two Glasgow rivals, and McKay admits that it was something no opposition manager had ever done before after an Old-Firm derby.
“He came over to me and told me I’d played really well. He said I was tremendous and told me to keep my head up. It was nice of him, because he didn’t need to do that,” McKay said.
“It took a lot for him to do that, especially after the high celebrations his team were doing. He stepped away from that to speak to me.
“I’ve had opposition managers do that to me before, but never after an Old Firm game to be fair.”
McKay was a constant threat during a brilliant Old-Firm derby match, with his attacking play causing the Celtic defence problems.
However, the Scottish winger was unable to help Rangers get past their capital rivals.
Rangers went in front when Kenny Miller scored from close range, but Celtic hit back with goals through Moussa Dembele and Scott Sinclair.
Celtic are now a staggering 19 points clear of Rangers, and they have a game in hand over Mark Warburton’s men.
