If Glasgow Rangers can sign Kyle Bartley and Martin Skrtel this summer then Steven Gerrard’s side will have the best defensive pairing in Scotland.

Bartley and Skrtel have both been linked with moves to Ibrox in recent times, with Rangers prepared to invest this summer.

The Daily Mirror claim that Bartley is on Rangers’ radar, while The Scottish Sun claim Skrtel is a target of Gerrard’s.

The pair would not come cheaply, but if Rangers can bring them both in then they would look much more solid next season.

Rangers have struggled to find a settled defensive pairing this season, with the likes of Fabio Cardoso, Bruno Alves and Russell Martin all being used in the heart of their defence.

But Bartley and Skrtel would be a major improvement on any of their current defensive options, and the duo would be rock solid.

Bartley could bring pace and power to Rangers’ defence, while Skrtel would bring leadership and knowhow.

And if Rangers bring the pair in, then Gerrard will certainly have a solid foundation to build his team upon.
