Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers are said to want to bring in the veteran centre-back this summer.

James Collins of West Ham United warms up during the Premier League match between West Ham United and Leicester City at London Stadium on March 18, 2017 in Stratford, England.

According to the Scottish Sun, Steven Gerrard wants to sign James Collins for Glasgow Rangers, but he should look elsewhere.

Collins has recently left West Ham United, and Rangers are said to be willing to offer him a now home at Ibrox.

However, the 34-year-old has shown signs of ageing in recent times, with his injury record hardly reliable.

Collins missed the back end of last campaign, and Rangers should be looking for younger targets.

Collins could offer experience in Rangers’ backline, but with Bruno Alves seemingly sticking around, that isn’t something which is necessarily needed urgently.

Indeed, Collins and Alves surely couldn’t be partnered together in Rangers’ defence, due to their lack of pace, so one of the veteran pair would always be missing out if they were at the Glasgow club at the same time.

Gerrard has spent his time in management so far taking charge of youngsters, and has been complemented for his work on the training ground.

And the Liverpool legend should be more keen to bring youngster players, which he can develop, to Rangers – rather than ageing veterans like Collins, who are in the twilight of their careers.
