Glasgow Rangers ace Alfredo Morelos has shared what Ibrox manager Steven Gerrard told him after he was sent off in Sunday’s Scottish Premiership Old Firm derby.
The Gers striker has been in sensational form for the Ibrox club this term but in the trip across Glasgow to face bitter rivals Celtic, he picked up his fifth red card of the season.
Morelos, who had one of his red cards rescinded, was dismissed for elbowing Hoops captain Scott Brown in the face, reacting to an off-the-ball trip by the opposition midfielder.
The Gers top scorer will now be banned by the Scottish FA for four matches, starting with Wednesday’s visit by Hearts, and will not be available until the first weekend of May.
Speaking to Colombian radio station Blu Radio, Morelos gave his side of the story regarding the match incident and also said he was eager to make it up to his manager, teammates and fans.
“After the match when we were in the dressing room, everything that (Gerrard) said publicly he also told me in front of my teammates, and I accepted it, I looked him in the eyes and told him that it was OK and there was no problem,” said the 22-year-old.
“Like I said I take full responsibility for the day of the match. It was an error that I made and I accept that and, like I said, my teammates support me. I want to respond to my manager also in the upcoming games. I need to continue, believe in myself and my team and keep doing things well and regain the confidence of my manager.”
Rangers are second in the Scottish Premiership table with 60 points from 31 matches, 13 points off top spot, but Morelos has contributed highly to their success with 29 goals and 11 assists from 45 matches in all competitions including 17 goals and eight assists in the league (Transfermarkt).
