Glasgow Rangers midfielder Jordan Thompson is hoping that Mark Warburton gives his more first-team opportunities next season at the Ibrox club.
Glasgow Rangers midfielder Jordan Thompson has told the Glasgow Evening Times that he is determined to break into Mark Warburton’s side next season, even though he appreciates that there will be more competition for places.
Rangers have already made four signings this summer, as they look to bolster their squad to allow them to compete in the Scottish Premiership.
Joey Barton, Matt Crooks, Josh Windass and Jordan Rossiter have completed moves to Ibrox, with more players set to follow them in to Rangers in the coming weeks.
The new additions put added obstacles in Thompson’s route to the first-team, but he has urged Warburton to have faith in him next term.
“There are always going to be good players coming in at Rangers but if I keep working hard then hopefully I will get another chance,” the 19-year-old said.
“Hopefully I have done enough in the game time I have had and in training and I will work hard in pre-season to try and hit the ground running next year.
“We are all team-mates at the end of the day but we have to do our best individually as well. Hopefully I can get more game time and get another contract at the end of the year.”
Thompson joined Rangers from Manchester United last summer, but he did not make too much of an impression at Ibrox.
Despite showing signs of promise, Thompson only made two appearances for the Light Blues, with injury blocking his progress.
Warburton has previously spoken of his admiration for Thompson, though, meaning that the youngster has some hope that he could break into the first-team over the years ahead.
The majority of Thompson’s experience of senior football so far has come on a loan spell with Airdrieonians.
