Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers signed Greg Docherty in January, but he’s already made a comment which Celtic fans won’t agree with.

Glasgow Rangers new boy Greg Docherty has told the Glasgow Evening Times that Jamie Murphy is the best winger in Scotland.

Murphy and Docherty both arrived at Ibrox last week, and the former Brighton man has already caught the eye.

Murphy has made a positive start at Rangers, scoring three times and claiming six assists in nine appearances.

And Docherty said: “Jamie has been huge for us and he has helped me settle in well.

“He is a big player and he has got his own aspirations to get in the Scotland squad. I don’t see how he can’t on that performance.

“He is the best wide man in the league in my opinion and he has really shown that in the last few games. Obviously we hope it is nothing serious and we get him back for the weekend.”

However, Docherty’s praise of Murphy may be hyperbolic, as Celtic surely have reason to claim they have the best wide options in Scotland.

Celtic have dominated Scottish football in recent years, and the Bhoys fans will argue that both James Forrest and Patrick Roberts are better players than Murphy.

Forrest has been one of Celtic’s key players this season, with the Scotland international starting to fulfil his obvious potential.

James Forrest of Celtic celebrates his goal with Callum McGregor during the Betfred Cup Final at Hampden Park on November 26, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Roberts, meanwhile, is one of the brightest young talents north of the border, and has already played at a higher level than Rangers man Murphy ever has, despite only being 21-years-old.

And while there is no doubting that Murphy has been a good addition for Rangers, he can’t claim to be on the same level as Roberts and Forrest at Celtic just yet.
