The Glasgow Rangers ace is away from Ibrox on loan and Steven Gerrard should do all he can to ensure the 22-year-old doesn’t leave Gers for good.

Glasgow Rangers loanee Greg Docherty has been away from Ibrox for virtually all of the 2018-19 season, having gone away on loan south of the border.

The 22-year-old is currently with English League One side Shrewsbury Town and he has done well for himself to say the least.

With a huge 46 games already under his belt in all competitions, Docherty has registered 9 goals and 11 assists, according to Transfermarkt.

Although Shrewsbury are 14th in the English third tier, which at first glance suggests relegation needn’t be a worry, pretty much half the table is fighting to stay out of the bottom four.

Back to Docherty, an interview to the Shropshire Star published on Saturday shows he is loving life at Shrewsbury, but one particular comment he made stood out.

“The support I’ve had this year has been incredible, probably the best I’ve experienced,” he said. “I’ve got a good solid base behind me. The whole town has been great and I’m not getting carried away. I want to deliver for the fans and give it back.

“I’m trying to get my name out there more and it’s been great, invaluable to be honest. When I hear the support from the stands backing me it really pushes me on. I do want to try my best and I’m so grateful to the support. There’s a job still to be done and I need to keep going and repay them. I feel fresh with five games to go and I’m ready for every game.”

The comment in question is the “trying to get my name out there”, which appears to suggest that Docherty – who made 11 Scottish Premiership appearances last season – wants to appeal to other parties aside from his parent club.

Indeed, with Gers being well equipped in central midfield, is Docherty seeking to depart Ibrox? Could he swap a side potentially challenging for the Scottish Premiership title next term for one outside the English top flight, whether it be Shrewsbury or another one? Certainly this is a space that should be watched.
