Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers appear to be closing in on signing Sean Goss.

Former United players Ryan Giggs (R) and Nicky Butt (L) await kick off ahead of the English Premier League football match between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford in...

Nicky Butt’s comments to Devon Live about Sean Goss should encourage Glasgow Rangers that they have signed a player with great potential.

Goss is expected to sign at Ibrox in the near future, after Rangers agreed a fee with QPR for the midfielder.

Goss has had a difficult time at QPR, where his first-team chances have been limited, but Rangers should not be put off by that.

Indeed, Butt’s glowing praise of Goss, only two years ago, should convince Rangers that they have got a talent, if they can get him back to his best.

“Sean did a great job at the club but it got to the point where he spoke to me on several occasions and obviously he felt it was time for him to go,” the Manchester United youth coach said. “He’s going to a big club in QPR and it’s a great move for him. It’s an opportunity he felt he had to take with both hands.

“He has got a lot of talent, an abundance of talent, and a wand of a left foot. He just needs to get playing men’s football now, week in and week out, and get on a roll because when you do that, all of a sudden, it starts coming easily to you.”

Goss never really was afforded the opportunity to get a run of games at QPR, but he could come straight into Rangers’ team.

Graeme Murty is looking to strengthen his midfield options, as Rangers look to push on in the coming months.

Rangers may already be too far behind Celtic to catch them in the Scottish Premiership, but they will want to close the gap on their Glasgow rivals over the second half of the campaign.
