Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers are said to be keen to bring in Jermain Defoe this summer.
It is hardly a surprise that Steven Gerrard wants Jermain Defoe at Glasgow Rangers, given how highly he rates the striker.
Rangers boss Gerrard and Defoe were teammates at England level for a number of years, and the Liverpool midfielder was always a big fan of the striker.
Indeed, when Defoe missed out on playing for England at the 2006 World Cup, Gerrard only had praise for the Ibrox side’s latest transfer target.
He said to Breaking News: “Everyone knows he’s a fantastic talent but unfortunately the manager can only pick 23 players.
“We’ve had good news on Wayne [Rooney] getting the all-clear after the scan but it’s a shame because he’s [Defoe] such a wonderful talent.”
The Scottish Sun claim that Rangers are eager to sign Defoe on a loan deal from Bournemouth.
The veteran forward has not scored prolifically for the Cherries this campaign, and Rangers hope that a deal could be done for the forward.
If Defoe does move to Glasgow, he will immediately become one of the most feared front-men in Scotland.
Defoe could be the clinical finisher that Rangers have been lacking for so long.
And Gerrard will hope that he can draw the best out of the 35-year-old at Ibrox, despite the striker’s advancing years, if he does make the move to Scotland this summer.
