The Glasgow Rangers legend wrote about two Gers players after their midweek win at Ibrox.

Glasgow Rangers legend Derek Johnstone has commented on the improving form of Ibrox loan duo Jermain Defoe and Steven Davis, but was left to rue the timing of it.
The two players arrived at the Glasgow club in January from south of the border in hopes of bolstering the ranks for a Scottish Premiership title tilt, but their time at Ibrox has been largely up and down.
England striker Defoe, who joined from Premier League club Bournemouth, began brightly in the Light Blues shirt but then found himself struggling for game time.
As for Davis, who came on board from Southampton, it has taken a while for the Northern Ireland captain to truly get up to speed.
Both impressed as Gers ran out 3-0 winners against Hearts on Wednesday night at Ibrox, a much-needed tonic following last weekend’s deflating Old Firm loss.
Writing after the Scottish Premiership win over the Jambos, Johnstone – who played 546 times for Rangers according to the official website – admitted that some of the worries over the two have sadly proven to be the case.

“There was a worry when we signed both players in January that it could take them a wee bit of time to really get up to speed and that has proven to be the case,” he wrote in the Evening Times. “It is one thing being fit, but it is quite another being match fit.
“It is good that both players are now coming to the fore, but unfortunate that it has come too late to matter in terms of the title race. Both still have a big part to play, though, and they will be keen to show the fans what they could bring to the team next season if they are part of Steven’s squad once again.”
Up next for Rangers is Sunday’s Scottish Premiership trip to Motherwell.
