Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers received four penalties during their match at the weekend.
Tavernier gave away Rangers’ fourth penalty to Defoe on Saturday, to allow the striker to get on the scoresheet against St. Mirren.
However, Tavernier’s decision clearly angered Alfredo Morelos, who was supposed to be Rangers’ second choice spot kick taker.
Morelos, himself, had wanted to put the ball in the back of the net for Rangers.
And Tavernier admits that the situation cannot occur again, so he will not be giving away any penalty kicks to his teammates.
“I am the designated penalty taker and, if I’m not on the pitch, Alfredo is second in line,” the right-back said.
“As long as I am on the pitch, I will be taking all the penalties. It can get a bit heated at times, when other lads want to take the penalty as you saw on Saturday. But it’s definitely been clarified and it will obviously stop in future the madness of people trying to run to grab the ball.”
Rangers won 4-0 against St. Mirren, with Tavernier scoring twice during the contest.
Steven Gerrard’s side will now be looking to carry that momentum into their game against Aberdeen later this evening.
Rangers could close the gap on Celtic down to three points, if they pick up a victory and other results go in their favour.
