Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers have placed Graeme Murty in temporary charge after Mark Warburton’s departure.

Glasgow Rangers caretaker boss Graeme Murty claims he will only play a young player for the Ibrox side if he feels they can improve the first-team squad.

Murty has been promoted to an interim manager position following the departure of Mark Warburton from Rangers last Saturday.

And the caretaker boss knows Rangers’ under-20 squad well, having coached them throughout the season to date.

Murty stuck by Rangers’ senior players during his first match in charge, which they won 2-1 against Morton.

However, there have been suggestions that Murty may look to freshen up Rangers’ side in the coming weeks by bringing in some of the Glasgow club’s top prospects.

Murty has previously spoken highly of the talent coming through at Rangers, but the 42-year-old has made it clear that he will only promote players from the youth squads, if he feels that they are ready to make the step up.

Rangers are currently in a battle for second place with Aberdeen, and they sit three points behind the Dons as things stand.

Rangers are next in action on Sunday, when they take on Dundee and Dens Park.
