Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers could well listen to offers for Lee Wallace in the coming weeks, with Steven Gerrard signing Jon Flanagan.
Steven Gerrard’s comments on Jon Flanagan looks like bad news for Glasgow Rangers defender Lee Wallace.
Wallace has seemingly been offered a lifeline at Ibrox, following the appointment of Gerrard, and was hoping to break back into his first-team.
But the arrival of Flanagan has complicated things a lot further for Wallace.
Gerrard has suggested that Flanagan could be utilised at left-back, which gives him good competition in the position now – with Declan John already at the club.
The new Rangers boss said to the Daily Mail: “He’ll come and fight for both the right and left-back positions.
“If you look at our two attacking full-backs, they are very good at what they do but in certain games we’ll need to go a different way.
‘We can’t just attack and go gung-ho against every single team. Sometimes we’ll need to stiffen it up and go a bit safer and Jon gives us that option.”
And if Flanagan is to be the first reserve at left-back, then it is hard to see where Wallace fits in at Rangers.
Wallace was suspended by Rangers last term, after a disagreement with Greame Murty.
When Gerrard took over at Ibrox he quickly stated that every player would be given a fresh start.
However, Wallace’s task of breaking into Rangers’ first-team has only got harder with Flanagan arriving, and it may be best for the 30-year-old to leave Glasgow this summer.
