Glasgow Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has told the Scotsman that he won’t offer a message to the travelling supporters backing his side out in Austria.

Rangers are expected to have a huge backing this evening, as they look to progress in Europe.

Rangers are set to take on Rapid Wien, and a victory could see them progress to the knockout stages.

Gerrard is hoping that Rangers perform under pressure, but he is wary about making any promises, with his side disappointing in recent weeks.

And Gerrard claims that he won’t be delivering a message to Rangers’ travelling army ahead of this evening’s match.

“It’s no surprise they have come over in numbers because they are passionate and love the club and have been doing that for years,” he said. “But I don’t want to give them a message about the game, I want my players to give the message by giving the supporters a performance of which they can be proud because the rewards are worth it.”

Rangers have performed above expectations in Europe so far this season, and have picked up some impressive results in a very tough group.

However, Gerrard’s side have put in two of their worst performances of the season in their last two domestic matches.

Rangers will have to be much improved this evening to have a chance of victory in the Austrian capital, as they aim to ensure European football will be played at Ibrox in 2019.
