Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers’s new boss Steven Gerrard is keen to offload fringe players.
Herrera and Cardoso were brought to Rangers by Pedro Caixinha last term, but neither did much to impress during their first season in Glasgow.
Herrera played 19 league games for Rangers, but only hit the back of the net on one occasion.
Cardoso, meanwhile, only played 12 times in the heart of Rangers’ defence and Gerrard has been quick to tell the pair to move on.
“I have had a conversation with both of them before we came and I told them that their game time would be very limited,” Gerrard revealed.
“I had to have honest conversations with them and the idea I have is to always be respectful to players and give as much time as possible during the window where they can find different opportunities.
“That is the type of manager I want to be, I want to look people in the eye and say ‘look, I don’t see a future for you, it is better if you speak to your representatives and find a team where you will play’.”
Gerrard has been quick to strengthen Rangers’ back-line, and attacking additions are expected at Ibrox in the near future.
With Rangers adding to their squad, Herrera and Cardoso have only fallen further down the pecking order.
Herrera and Cardoso are both likely to pursue moves abroad, as they head towards the exit door at Rangers.
The pair could be joined by Bruno Alves, although Gerrard intends to tell the experienced centre-back of his fate at Ibrox after the World Cup.
