Glasgow Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has told the Daily Record that Celtic are ‘still the team to beat’.

Rangers beat Celtic in the Old-Firm derby in the last game before the winter break to go level on points with Brendan Rodgers’ men at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

That win at Ibrox has given Rangers momentum, and there has been suggestions that Gerrard’s side have made themselves favourites to beat Celtic to the league title with their business in the January transfer window.

Rangers have brought in Steven Davis and Jermain Defoe to improve their squad, in an impressive shown of ambition.

But Gerrard insists that he still thinks Celtic are leading the way for the league title.

“I still think Celtic are the team to beat and catch. They have the know-how,” the Rangers boss said.

“They remain the champions as we speak, so we are not going to sit here and boast or predict anything that’s too early to predict.

“What we will say is that we will give it everything we’ve got.”

Rangers and Celtic both return to league action this evening, and they are both under pressure to pick up the three points.
