Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers are reportedly set to offload Barrie McKay this summer.

Glasgow Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha has told the Glasgow Evening Times that he wants a number of players in his Ibrox side to make it into Scotland’s national team.

Rangers are currently without Bruno Alves, who is representing Portugal at the Confederations Cup.

And Caixinha is hoping to have plenty of internationals in his set-up at Ibrox, as the season progresses.

He said: “Rangers, as big a club as we are, need to have players in the Scottish national team, for example.

“We need players in different national teams and we need players playing in huge competitions with their national teams.”

Caixinha’s comments make his apparent decision to sell Barrie McKay look all the more baffling.

According to the Nottingham Post, Caixinha has decided to demote McKay to training with Rangers’ under-20 side – and wants to sell the winger.

Although there is a contractual issue to sort out with McKay, it seems strange for Rangers to be isolating the player who is one of the closest to breaking into Scotland’s squad, given Caixinha’s desire for international players at Ibrox.

McKay made his Scotland debut in 2016, and looks to have the capabilities to represent his country on a long-term basis.

However, Rangers seem to have made their mind up about the winger, with Caixinha set to offload McKay in the near future.
