Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers are set to take on Progres in the Europa League on Thursday.
Pedro Caixinha has confirmed to the Glasgow Evening Times that Daniel Candeias cannot play in Glasgow Rangers’ Europa League qualifier against Progres on Thursday night.
Rangers’ competitive season commences later this week, and Caixinha looks set to make a number of changes to his side.
Rangers have made eight new signings already this summer, and a sizeable amount of the fresh faces are set to be given their debuts in midweek.
However, Candeias will not be able to play for Rangers – due to UEFA rules over the transfer.
“The only one we could not get is because the transfer window is different and I think in this situation UEFA should have exceptions,” Caixinha said. “The timings are different in different countries.
“I am talking about Daniel Candeias. He was in Turkey and he needs to receive it by the system on the first of July so we could not get it for the first qualifier and we hope to have him on the second one.”
Candeias’ absence is a blow for Rangers, as he may well have started had he been available.
Caixinha will be under pressure to get Rangers’ season off to a good start in Europe, as he has made so many changes this summer.
The Light Blues have been the most active team in Scotland – and Caixinha has promised a big improvement next term.
Rangers go into their match against Progres as heavy favourites to win the tie and make it through to the next stage of qualifying.
