Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers were beaten by Celtic 5-1 yesterday.
Glasgow Rangers boss Mark Warburton has admitted to the Daily Mail that he was worried for Niko Kranjcar during the Old Firm derby yesterday.
Kranjcar was subbed off at half-time during Rangers’ 5-1 defeat to Celtic at Parkhead yesterday, after he picked up a booking early on.
The Croatian midfielder was yellow carded for a series of poor challenges in the first-half, and Warburton stated after the match that his withdrawal was to try and ensure that Rangers kept 11 players on the pitch.
“The atmosphere and the crowd baying for blood in terms of having a player sent off, I was worried for Niko,” Warburton admitted.
Warburton’s plan to help his Rangers side avoid a red card did not help, as Philippe Senderos was sent to the stands in the second half.
Senderos’ dismissal helped Celtic seal a comprehensive victory, but in truth the damage had already been done before the former Arsenal man left the field.
The Bhoys were a class above Rangers on the day, as Warburton’s side struggled to limit the threat of their bitter rivals.
Celtic’s victory has helped to extend their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership, while Rangers have dropped down into third place.
The Ibrox side will now look to bounce back from their disappointing defeat by beating Ross County next weekend.
