Glasgow Rangers boss Graeme Murty’s prediction about Jamie Murphy has already proven to be exactly right.

Murphy moved to Rangers from Brighton & Hove Albion during the January transfer window, and he initially started slowly.

Murphy didn’t score in his first four appearances for Rangers in the league, but Murty always had faith.

He said to Rangers’ official website, just last week: “I think when you look at Jamie, he is starting to get fit. He hasn’t played a lot of football, but we have thrown him in the pitch and got him in the team as we want to get minutes into his legs.

“We’ve seen his composure in possession and his quality in possession – he adds an attacking threat from the left-hand side that we haven’t necessarily had, but then also, he has added a goal, and then another goal, and then he joins in and links the play up really well.

“He’s not there yet and there is more to come from him, but I will say that for the team – this is still to come team where there is more to come. There is more structure and more ruthlessness and relentlessness to come.”

Murty’s words have proven entirely correct, as Murphy is now starting to look at home at Ibrox.

The winger has scored two goals and claimed three assists in his last two Rangers matches, as he has helped Murty’s side to victories over Hamilton and Hearts.

Murphy is now really clicking into gear, at a crucial stage of the season for Rangers.

The Light Blues’ strong run of form has raised hopes that they could yet push Celtic for the league title.

Rangers have won five of their last six league matches, to close the gap on the league leaders.

And it seems that Murphy has a key role to play between now and the end of the season, with the wide-man’s form very encouraging.
