Jason Cummings scored three times for Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers in their most recent match.
Rangers signed Cummings on loan for the rest of the season from Nottingham Forest, and the forward has made an impressive start at Ibrox.
Cummings has been rotated in and out of Rangers’ starting line-up, but he was picked from the off against Falkirk yesterday, and he repaid Murty’s faith.
The loanee hit a hat-trick as Rangers picked up a 4-1 victory in the Scottish Cup.
And Murty believes that he is starting to understand how to get the best out of the January signing.
He said: “He’s a big character and he shows the difference between a striker and those who aren’t.
“His finishes show different aspects. I’m looking at him and I’m starting to understand what he can bring. I didn’t ask him to be a winger, because he’s not, I asked him to be an inside forward and he performed the role really well.”
Cummings could now have forced his way into Rangers’ starting plans for next weekend, when they take on Celtic.
Whether the loanee will be used in tandem with Alfredo Morelos or a lone striker in the Old-Firm derby remains to be seen.
Rangers have narrowed the gap on Celtic at the top of the table down to just six points, and if they are able to beat their Glasgow rivals on Sunday then it will really put the pressure on Brendan Rodgers’ men.
