Glasgow Rangers boss Graeme Murty admits he wasn’t prepared for Ibrox atmosphere against Celtic

Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers were beaten 3-2 by Celtic in the Old-Firm derby last weekend.

Glasgow Rangers boss Graeme Murty has told the Herald Scotland that he was not prepared for the atmosphere at Ibrox when his side took on Celtic at the weekend.

Rangers may have been beaten 3-2 by their Glasgow rivals, but the home crowd were very much behind their team.

Rangers fans created a great noise in the stadium, and although they were not able to inspire their side to victory, Murty said: “I do have to say, I have never experienced an atmosphere like it in my life.

“I have been to Parkhead, I have played in front of 80,000 at Old Trafford, I was not prepared for the wall of sound that hit me when we scored our first goal. I was not prepared for it.

“I have got nothing to equate it to and as a learning experience as a young manager, and as hard as it is and as bitter as it is right now, I will be far, far better for it.”

Rangers took the lead early on in the contest when Josh Windass found the back of the net, but they were pegged back quickly by Tom Rogic.

Rangers then scored again through Daniel Candeias, but Celtic showed their powers of recovery once more, to level the scores up before the break.

The turning point was expected to come in the second-half, when Jozo Simunovic was sent off, but Celtic overcame their numerical disadvantage to pick up the three points.

Rangers are now sat nine points behind Brendan Rodgers’ side, and surely have no chance of catching them in the race for the title.
