Steven Gerrard’s Glasgow Rangers were left reeling by Ibrox forward Morelos being sent off against their Glasgow rivals in their Scottish Premiership clash.

Glasgow Rangers ace Alfredo Morelos has spoken of how one of his Colombia teammates offered him support after he was sent off in Sunday’s Scottish Premiership Old Firm derby.

The Gers striker has been in sensational form for Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox club this term but was shown his fifth red card of the season in the clash between the two Glasgow sides at Parkhead.

Morelos, who had one of his red cards rescinded, was dismissed for elbowing Celtic captain Scott Brown in the face, reacting to an off-the-ball trip by the opposition midfielder.

The Gers top scorer copped a four-match ban, of which one has been served – Wednesday’s 3-0 win over Hearts – and he will not be available until the first weekend of May.

Speaking to Colombian radio station Blu Radio, Morelos was asked about what his international peers had to say, and he name-checked Zenit Saint-Petersburg midfielder Wilmar Barrios.

“Yes,” said Morelos when asked if he was contacted. “I spoke with Wilmar Barrios who I’m in contact with and he told me to keep moving forward, that these things happen and that I focus myself only on scoring goals and doing what I do best.”

Despite his disciplinary stats not being the best this season, Morelos remains well loved by the Gers fanbase with 29 goals and 11 assists from 45 matches in all competitions including 17 goals and eight assists in the league this term (Transfermarkt).
