One-time Celtic hero Virgil van Dijk has posted on Instagram that it was ‘nice to be back in Glasgow’ after Liverpool thrashed Rangers 7-1 in the Champions League on Wednesday night at Ibrox.
Jurgen Klopp’s side, who went into the game on the back of another defeat in the Premier League, demolished the Scottish Premiership side thanks to a Mo Salah hat-trick.
Understandably so, van Dijk, upon his return to Scotland following his days in Celtic colours, got a pretty hostile reception from the home crowd.

And, after 17 minutes, those Rangers fans were in dreamland because Scott Arfield’s edge-of-the-box shot opened the scoring for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men – although that was the end of it all for the home side.
The Reds hit back five minutes later through Roberto Firmino, before the second-half saw utter carnage unfold, including Salah coming off from the bench, blowing down Rangers’ door down and netting a quite stunning six-minute hat-trick.
Van Dijk, given his past Celtic roots, sure enjoyed yesterday’s win and the manner it all unfolded, as he sent the following message to fans.
THE HAALAND TEST…
Van Dijk’s form this season has been nowhere near what has been expected of him over the years, and on Sunday, fans will be expected to see the ice-cool Dutchman return.
Liverpool’s thrashing of Rangers, and the manner of that win, would have helped his and the team’s cause, regarding morale because it was low following their defeat to Arsenal.
But Manchester City and Erling Haaland will be a different test altogether, especially given that the former Dortmund star already has 15 Premier League goals to his name.
Van Dijk stopped Haaland from scoring in the Community Shield earlier on in the season, but a lot has changed since then.
