Borussia Monchengladbach youngster Mandela Egbo has suggested that Reece Oxford could return to the German side, when commenting on the West Ham star’s latest Instagram post.

Oxford, 19, went on loan to Gladbach last season for almost the entire 2017-18 campaign, only returning in January in order for David Moyes to have a look at the teenage star and weigh up whether it was worth keeping him.

Instead he returned to Gladbach and made eight appearances in total for the club’s senior side, impressing in those matches and has indeed tempted the German club into a permanent move. Oxford posted on instagram about pre-season.

The Daily Mail claimed back in May that Oxford reckons he has little future at the London Stadium and wants a move, and now London-born Egbo – who joined Gladbach from Crystal Palace in 2015 – has added fuel to the fire.

He replied to Oxford’s post about pre-season training with the Hammers, commenting “einmal Borusse, immer Borusse”, which is translated as “once Borussia, always Borussia”.

Oxford burst onto the scene at West Ham as a 16-year-old, marking Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil out of the game in Slaven Bilic’s first Premier League match in charge as the Hammers won 2-0.

However, he has failed to deliver on his potential since then, making only 17 senior Hammers appearances. The east Londoners have recently signed defender Issa Diop, while Declan Rice’s breakthrough has pushed Oxford further down the pecking order.

Oxford has three years remaining on his current Hammers contract, but it remains to be seen where his future lies.
