Celtic lost 1-0 at home to Anderlecht on Tuesday night.
Pundit Roy Keane has told ITV’s Champions League Highlights Show that he felt Celtic were ‘shocking’ in their 1-0 home defeat to Anderlecht on Tuesday night.
The Bhoys went into their game knowing that they couldn’t make it through to the knockout stages, but anything that wasn’t a 3-0 defeat or worse would send Celtic into the Europa League.
Manager Brendan Rodgers opted to field a strong side for the game, but fell to a 1-0 defeat as Jozo Simunovic scored a second half own goal to hand Anderlecht the win.
Celtic still head through to the Europa League having come third in their group, but the performance was a major disappointment, leaving Rodgers with plenty of work to do.
Whilst Rodgers has been dominating in Scotland, European performances continue to fall short of the mark, with just three points picked up in six group games this season and heavy defeats to Paris Saint-Germain to boot.
On Wednesday night, pundit and former Celtic midfielder Roy Keane offered his view, with the Irishman far from impressed with what he saw and heard at Celtic Park.
Keane told ITV’s Champions League Highlights Show that he thought Celtic’s performance was ‘shocking, really poor’, before tearing into manager Rodgers for his comments about a great achievement to make it to the Europa League.
Keane suggested that the comments were not acceptable, and that if Rodgers’ comments are anything to go by, then the key to management is to set standards incredibly low.
“I thought it was a shocking result, a really poor performance,” said Keane. “Brendan’s talking about how it’s a great achievement…I think the key to management nowadays is to set your standards really, really low, and you’ll be in the game for a long time. It’s just not acceptable for Celtic, losing at home to Anderlecht? Give me a break,” he added.
