Speaking on his Twitch channel, Fabrice Muamba has recommended Etienne Capoue as a potential signing for Newcastle United in January.

Newcastle certainly need reinforcements through the door in the winter transfer window and one area they may want to strengthen is in the midfield.

The Magpies don’t have the best midfield in the league, and Muamba believes that Capoue could solve some of their problems in that spot.

What’s been said about Capoue?

Muamba was asked who he’d sign if he was in charge at Newcastle, and he recommended Capoue.

“The one who came to my head, he’s playing in the Champions League right now, the guy who plays for Villarreal in midfield who used to be at Watford. He’s played in the Premier League, he was relegated with Watford and he has experience, he’s a very very good player, Etienne Capoue. He’s an experienced player, Capoue has experience, you can’t deny that, give him whatever he wants and bring him to the team. He’s got the legs, he’s got the experience, he’s a box to box player, he’s a great midfielder and if you give him the opportunity he’ll get into the box and score you goals,” Muamba said.

Hard to get

Capoue would be an excellent addition at Newcastle. After all, he has bags of Premier League experience and he knows how to navigate a relegation battle.

However, you have to ask, how easy is it going to be to convince him to swap Villarreal for Newcastle?

Unai Emery turned down that exact switch earlier this month, and we have to imagine that Capoue could do the same.

As Muamba says, the Frenchman is playing in the Champions League right now, and at the age of 33, he may not get many more chances to play at that level.

The Frenchman would be an excellent addition, but it’s going to be tough to convince anyone to swap the Champions League for a Premier League relegation battle.
