Manchester United fans have voted, and they want to see Nick Powell given a chance in the first-team next season.

Manchester United currently have a whole host of young players out on loan. But which one are the fans most desperate to see in first-team action next season?

That was the question we posed last week, and the result was a landslide in favour of one extremely promising United starlet – Nick Powell.

The attacking midfielder was making waves as a 17-year-old at Crewe Alexandra, to such an extent that Sir Alex Ferguson made his move in 2012 for a reported initial fee of £3million.

Powell had just added another wonder-strike to his growing list, as he helped fire Crewe into League One via the play-offs. But since scoring on his United debut against Wigan Athletic, Powell has rarely been seen in a red shirt, instead spending this season on loan with the Latics.

It has been a move that has paid off both for the player and his temporary club, with Powell netting 10 goals to date including three in the Europa League.

In short, the now-19-year-old has proved categorically that he deserves a chance in David Moyes’ first-team, and our readers appear to feel the same.

We ran a vote last week asking which current United loan star deserved a chance next season, with Powell joined by Angelo Henriquez, Jesse Lingard, Michael Keane, Will Keane and Wilfried Zaha. And Powell came out on top, with a huge 72% of the vote!

Considering Lingard has impressed on the club’s pre-season tour and during loan spells at both Birmingham City and Brighton, and that Zaha was hailed by some as the heir-apparent to Cristiano Ronaldo, it may surprise some that Powell won by such a margin.

But it shouldn’t, because the young midfielder is an outstanding talent, and given the chance, he will be scoring regularly for United for years to come.
