The Italian left for Empoli on loan this summer.

Unpopular and loaned out Leeds United defender Giuseppe Bellusci has been speaking to Goal about the reasons why he left Elland Road this summer.

The Italian defender left Leeds this summer, joining Empoli on loan for the season with a view to a permanent move.

His departure was universally welcomed among the Leeds United faithful – who had grown to dislike Bellusci for several reasons.

The Italian defender spoke about his exit to Goal, where he gave two key reasons behind the departure. One, broken promises; two, the birth of his daughter:

“I went to Leeds with high expectations and dreams, but then the promises are gone and there were no conditions to stay.

“In addition, the birth of my little girl has finally convinced me to return (to Italy). When I was proposed the idea of Empoli I did not think twice, because the situation in Leeds was no longer that of the first year, and because I would be back in Serie A and could prove to be matured as a player and as a man.”

He also explained how his experience at Elland Road had not only helped him grow as a player, but also as a man:

“Yeah, because beyond that it is over, English adventure made me grow from the human and as a player to.”

Bellusci has once again refused to be critical of the Leeds United fans, which must be commended considering the ill-feeling toward him from some sections of the Leeds fanbase.

He has had a mixed start to life back in Italy, with a recent performance against Juventus coming in for serious ridicule.

It looks as though Italy will be his long-term location however, with a return to Leeds looking highly unlikely.
