Newcastle United are attempting to sign Feyenoord striker Nicolai Jorgensen.
Feyenoord boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst has told RTV Rijnmond that he knows of Newcastle United’s interest in Nicolai Jorgensen, but doesn’t know if negotiations are ongoing.
Feyenoord attempted to bounce back from Sunday’s defeat to bitter rivals Ajax when they took on Utrecht on Wednesday night, but could only claim a 1-1 draw.
The game saw Robin van Persie make his second debut for the club having re-joined the Rotterdam side, but Nicolai Jorgensen missed out through suspension having been sent off against Ajax.
Jorgensen is a hot topic of conversation this week, given that Newcastle United – as reported by Sky Sports – have failed with one bid for the Danish striker.
It’s believed that Feyenoord are holding out for at least £20million for Jorgensen’s signature, and it remains to be seen whether Newcastle splash what would be a club-record fee on him.
Jorgensen, 27, hit 21 goals in 32 games for Feyenoord last season following a 2016 move from Copenhagen, firing Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title in the process.
With nine goals in 18 games this season, Jorgensen continues to impress, and it seems that Rafael Benitez has identified him as the perfect centre forward to offer more of a goal threat to this Newcastle team.
Now, Feyenoord boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst has spoken to RTV Rijnmond after the draw with Utrecht, and admitted that there has indeed been interest, but technical director Martin van Geel hasn’t told him if talks are ongoing, but believes English clubs can move fast in the transfer market due to their spending power.
“I know that there is interest, I have not heard from Martin (van Geel) that there are negotiations,” said Van Bronckhorst. “You are always dependent on the market, especially if it is an English club, it can go fast,” he added.
