Celtic know that Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers pose a threat, says one ex-player.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has told The Sunday Post that Rangers are ready to challenge Celtic in Scotland.

The Hoops finished nine points ahead of Steven Gerrard’s Rangers and picked up an eighth successive Scottish Premiership title this past season – and ultimately completed a historic treble Treble.

But there have been undeniable signs of improvement from the Gers, who beat Celtic in two Old Firm derbies last season.

Before the clash at Ibrox on December 31, the light Blues hadn’t beaten their Old Firm rivals in 13 attempts.

But former Rangers star Van Bronckhorst likes what he’s seeing from Gerrard’s side, and tips his old club to push their Glasgow rivals very close next term.

He told The Sunday Post: “Thanks to a lot of hard work behind the scenes, and the appointment of Steven Gerrard as manager, the club is now heading the right way, and they are now very, very close to being at the same level on the park.

“Of course, it is an important period coming up, and they look as though they are ready to go and properly challenge. This will be a test for Celtic, because Rangers are ready. Celtic will not get it easy next season, we all know that.”

Consistency is a big thing for Rangers. As they’ve proven, they’re more than a match for Celtic in head-to-heads, but whether they can be as consistent as the Bhoys from August until May is another thing entirely.
