After interest waned, will the imminent sale of Scott Sinclair to Manchester City rejuvenate Swansea’s interest in the Mexican starlet who has been outcast by Tottenham Hotspur?
It’s all a bit grim down at the Liberty Stadium at the moment, with Liverpool and Manchester City reportedly on the cusp of luring away two of their best performers in the shape of Team GB internationals Joe Allen and Scott Sinclair respectively. After losing their manager, and 2 loan stars in Gylfi Sigurdsson and Steven Caulker, whose performances for the Swan’s has precipitated his recent call up to the England team, Swansea are in danger of fading away from last seasons moment in the spotlight.
So if Scott Sinclair goes, which appears increasingly likely Swansea are going to be in desperate need of a replacement, who could fill the void?
Well if you go back to May, when Gylfi Sigurdsson had ‘sealed’ a record move to Swansea and Brendan Rodgers was still the gaffer he went to watch a forgotten man in world football play exceptionally for his country in New York. The man in question is Giovani Dos Santos.
Giovani has failed to excel at Tottenham since moving from Barcelona in 2008. Whilst his club form has never lived up to his potential; at international level he exceeds expectations. A valuable member of the Mexico side since 2007 he has already amassed almost 60 caps for the national team. He has had yet another impressive turn in the Tricolor at the Olympic Games and fits the Swansea setup well.
He will find plenty of Spanish speaking friends in South Wales with Angel Rangel and Michu currently in the squad plus a manager fluent in the his mother tongue, if he needs it that is, after living in the UK for 4 years you hope he would have grasped the language.
He would also be keen to prove himself in the UK and it is always a surprise to discover he is only 23 years old. If Laudrup was willing to continue Rodger’s initial interest in the Mexican starlet, who is the son of former Brazilian player Zizinho, he would be acquiring a brilliant asset for the team if he can replicate his national team form for The Swans.
But a lot has changed at his parent club, Spurs, since the initial interest in May. Redknapp is gone and AVB is in yet tensions are already frayed between the 2. AVB was reportedly furious at Giovani’s decision to publically declare a desire to leave the Lane. After the Olympics are over they will talk it out but if Swansea want a readymade raw talent to replace Scott Sinclair they should look no further then the Mexican who was on Brendan Rodgers initial shopping list.
