David Ginola has told Spanish newspaper AS that he believes Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino must win something this season – or face the sack.

Pochettino is now in his fourth season at Spurs, continuing to earn praise and plaudits in abundance as his Tottenham side sit third in the Premier League and have qualified for the knockout phase of the Champions League.

However, the 45-year-old is yet to hold aloft any kind of silverware since joining from Southampton in May 2014, and has seen his side already knocked out of the Carabao Cup by London rivals West Ham.

Former Spurs midfielder Ginola, who also played for Newcastle, Everton and Aston Villa, applauded Pochettino for Spurs’ form on the pitch but claimed that Spurs’ hierarchy could have a decision to make if he does not win a trophy this term.

“They’re doing amazingly well, very impressed, very composed, very mature,” Ginola said. “You know, if Spurs are doing well now, Pochettino is the king, let’s see in six months’ time if he is not winning anything, if he’s stays as the king.

“I would love him to because stability for the club is keeping the managers as much as possible, as long as possible because that’s a priority.”

Pochettino has a huge win ratio of 55 per cent at Spurs throughout his 180 league and cup encounters in charge, but is yet to win a trophy as manager at any level, after failing to claim victory in any tournaments with Southampton or Espanyol.

Spurs are still competing on three fronts this season, as they sit eight points behind Manchester City in the Premier League. The last 16 of the Champions League beckons, while they enter the FA Cup third round in January.

It remains to be seen if Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy does consider the Argentinian manager’s future at the end of the season, with four years still left to run on his current contract at Spurs.
