David Ginola has claimed that Tottenham and their fans ‘regret’ sacking Mauricio Pochettino in 2019, as he told Sky Sports (17/10/21 at 7:30 pm).

The Tottenham legend claims that Pochettino was ‘great’ for Spurs and the club should have been patient with the now-PSG boss.

It has been nearly two years since Daniel Levy handed Pochettino his p45, and in truth, Spurs have stagnated since that call was made.

From the questionable Jose Mourinho reign, where he was brought in to win trophies but sacked a week before the League Cup final, to then bringing in Nuno Espirito Santo, who wasn’t even in the top five choices to replace his fellow countryman.

There have been some strange calls from Levy and it has seen him become an even more unpopular person in North London.

Spurs legend Ginola shared what fans told him about Pochettino and why they shouldn’t have let it go.

“They start to regret Pochettino,” said Ginola. “I bump into Spurs fan the other day and they said ‘we regret (sacking) Pochettino’.

“‘He was great. Okay, he didn’t win anything with us, but he was in the process of building something great for the club. We played great football. And we enjoyed it’.

“I think you need to be patient. But patience isn’t a word you use in football, right now.”

It’s going to be interesting to see what path Pochettino and Spurs go down during these next 12 months because they could end up re-uniting.

If things go wrong for Pochettino in Paris, then he won’t last long in the job, and if the same happens to Nuno, then the same applies.

There were murmurs in the summer that Levy wanted to bring back the Argentine, but perhaps that was just a pipe dream more than anything.

Either way, Spurs are now worse off from when Pochettino first walked out of the North London doors.
