Glasgow Rangers youngster Billy Gilmour’s future at the club is in doubt.

Glasgow Rangers are desperate to keep young talent Billy Gilmour at Ibrox – but face a tough task.

The Express reported last month how new boss Pedro Caixinha has urged the teenager to stay amid claims he will pen a contract with Chelsea when he turns 16 this June.

Gilmour clearly has a big decision to make, and he should take note of comments from under-20s teammate Myles Beerman.

Beerman, 17, has made the step up into the first team, starting the Gers’ last two games and looking accomplished in doing so.

Beerman is an interesting case, joining Rangers from English Premier League side Manchester City in the summer, the opposite of what Gilmour is seeking to do.

Comments made by Beerman offer an insight into why, and it is an important message Gilmour should factor into his decision.

He told the Glasgow Evening Times: “People might not think that going from Manchester City to Rangers is a step up, but it’s another stepping stone for me towards first-team football, and the opportunity was amazing for me.”

Beerman has already got his first team opportunity, and Gilmour could get his if he stays at Rangers.

If he leaves, Gilmour could be watching Beerman play for Rangers for several years, while sitting in Chelsea’s youth team or out on loan in Holland, instead of playing alongside him. Surely it is better to stay and progress and let the big move come later?
