Rangers have been linked with bringing striker Tom Eaves to Ibrox.

According to Sky Sports, Rangers wanted to sign Gillingham striker Tom Eaves during the January transfer window, but no deal materialised.

Rangers did sign a striker as Jermain Defoe arrived from Bournemouth on an 18-month loan deal, bolstering Steven Gerrard’s strike force.

Still though, Kyle Lafferty isn’t impressing at Ibrox, and with Alfredo Morelos expected to attract interest this summer, Rangers are likely to keep strikers on their radar.

Eaves is one option, though signing him may hint that Lafferty doesn’t have a future at the club, given that they’re both target man who thrive on aerial balls.

Eaves, 26, hit 18 goals last season and is currently on 20 goals in 43 games this term, continuing to smash goals in League One – but he’s set to move on.

The giant striker’s contract with Gillingham expires this summer, and it seems likely that he will move on for free, but they aren’t giving up just yet.

Boss Steve Lovell has told Kent Online that he is still hoping to get Eaves tied down to a new contract, but acknowledges that it will be hard to keep him given the interest in his signature.

Eaves, a fellow Liverpudlian like Gerrard, could be a smart addition on a free transfer for Rangers, but only if Lafferty moves on, as having both seems somewhat redundant.
