Gianluigi Buffon raves about reported Liverpool target Alisson

Liverpool target Alisson has been hailed by fellow goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.

Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has been quoted by Roma’s official website as saying that Roma goalkeeper Alisson gives his team ‘a lot of confidence’ amid links to Liverpool.

Alisson, 25, joined Roma from Internacional in his native Brazil back in the summer of 2016, and after spending most of last season sat behind Wojciech Szczesny in the Roma pecking order, he has come into his own this season.

The Brazilian international has become Roma’s clear first-choice goalkeeper this season, starring between the sticks for the Serie A side whilst also emerging as the favourite to play in goal for Brazil at this summer’s World Cup, ahead of Manchester City ace Ederson.

Unsurprisingly, Alisson’s outstanding displays for Roma have sparked interest in his signature, and Sky Sports recently claimed that Liverpool are already in talks over a deal to sign Alisson this summer, with a £62million asking price on his head.

UOL Esporte in Brazil also claimed just days ago that talks with Liverpool are progressing well, and they lead the race to sign Alisson ahead of Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid; two European heavyweights.

Liverpool fans have been researching Alisson ever since the links emerged, and they have been given a major insight into his ability by fellow goalkeeper and Juventus star Gianluigi Buffon.

Buffon has been quoted by Roma’s official website as saying that Alisson’s ability is only a surprise to people who haven’t watched him in action before, with legendary Buffon impressed with how he handles dangerous situations, giving his defence ahead of him confidence.

“Alisson is a surprise only for those who haven’t seen him before,” said Buffon. “What really strikes me is how he deals with dangerous situations so efficiently. That gives his team a lot of confidence,” he added.

That will be music to the ears of Liverpool fans, who have seen Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius turn in nervous displays in goal for Liverpool, and a deal for Alisson – as expensive as it may be – could boost the Liverpool back line even further after signing Virgil van Dijk in January.
