Everton have been linked with a move for ex-Derby County defender and current Chelsea man Fikayo Tomori.
Gianfranco Zola previously lauded reported Everton target Fikayo Tomori for his ‘excellent’ performance against Chelsea during Derby’s League Cup defeat at Stamford Bridge in October.
Centre-back Tomori was on-loan at Derby last season, and he is now being linked with a move to Everton after returning to his parent club, as reported by Sky Sports.
In October, whilst playing for the Rams, Tomori came up against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup, with Zola in the Stamford Bridge dugout. Five minutes into the match, he made a big blunder against his parent club and netted an own-goal.
But, Zola, at the time, offered nothing but praise for the manner in which the Everton-linked player reacted to that close-your-eyes moment.
“He [Tomori] has been unlucky with the own goal, but the performance he and Keogh put on afterwards was excellent,” said Zola, as quoted by FourFourTwo.
“It happens. If he hadn’t touched that ball, [Alvaro] Morata would have scored a goal. He played well.”
During his time at Derby, and during that highly-pressured match against Chelsea, Tomori proved his worth to all and showcased that he is perhaps ready to play for a team such as Everton.
Last season, the Toffees had Kurt Zouma on-loan at the club, but he seemingly isn’t available and a player like Tomori, whilst he wouldn’t be able to fill Zouma’s shoes right now, might just be a good fit.
He helped Derby to the Championship play-off final last season and his attributes of being strong in a tackle, reading the game well and being able to bring the ball out from the back, does suit Silva’s style of play.
