Birmingham City have made a poor start to life under the guidance of Gianfranco Zola.

Gianfranco Zola has admitted to Birmingham City’s official website that he is concerned about the amount of set pieces his side are conceding.

Birmingham have been guilty of conceding from dead ball situations far too often this season, and they were once again undone by their Achilles heel in their most recent match.

Sheffield Wednesday scored their opener from a free-kick, as they picked up a flattering 3-0 victory over Zola’s men.

And the Italian boss admits that he is working hard on the training ground to try and stop Birmingham from being exposed at set pieces any more.

“It is a concern and it is one of the areas since I came I said I would address,” Zola said.

“We work on that, I promise we work on that.

“Obviously the results are not good but we are working every week, we dedicate a little bit of time for that.”

Zola could justifiably feel hard done by after Birmingham’s latest defeat to Wednesday, as the 3-0 scoreline didn’t reflect the pattern of the match.

The Blues were pressing for an equaliser, when Wednesday scored twice late on to seal the three points.

However, Birmingham have now only won once in Zola’s 12 games in charge, and the pressure is mounting on the Chelsea legend.

Birmingham are next in action on Tuesday evening, when they take on Preston North End at Deepdale, in what will be a tough test.
