Tottenham Hotspur seemingly won’t be landing Gian Piero Gasperini.
The Atalanta boss has emerged as a candidate for the Spurs job in recent days following the sacking of Jose Mourinho.
First, Ian McGarry suggested that Spurs had picked out Gasperini as a potential replacement for Mourinho, and he had responded positively to initial talks.
Then, Corriere della Sera in Italy claimed that Gasperini wasn’t keen on the move, and would only leave Atalanta for Juventus – not Tottenham.
Today, Gasperini was asked by Sky Italia whether the rumours were true and that he had spoken to Tottenham, and he completely killed off those claims.
Gasperini claims he would only speak to any interested clubs at the end of the season, and joked that Atalanta’s owner may even be bored of him.
“Contacts? If someone wanted me I would tell them to contact me after the 24th of May, but I should first understand if the president is bored with me,” he added.
Gasperini is 63, but has earned a great reputation for playing exciting football with Atalanta, which is what Spurs need after Mourinho.
The Italian would certainly entertain fans, and he actually has a huge fan in Mourinho himself, who praised him back in 2010.
It doesn’t seem like Gasperini will be joining Spurs though, so you can add him to the list already containing Julian Nagelsmann, Jesse Marsch and Erik ten Hag.
