MK Dons sent Aaron Tshibola back to Aston Villa with six months remaining on his loan spell at the League One club.

Aston Villa paid Reading £5 million for Aaron Tshibola in the summer of 2016, per GetReading. 16 months later, however, the midfielder has seen a wretched loan spell in League One cut short less than halfway through the season.

According to the Birmingham Mail, Tshibola joined MK Dons on a temporary spell in order to revive a career that has stuttered since earning that big money move to Villa Park.

After just 16 largely disappointing appearances in the third tier, however, The Dons have ended the 22-year-old’s spell at Stadium MK six months early. And this should come as no surprise to anyone who watched Tshibola in action this season.

If you could spot him that is.

Tshibola was largely anonymous for Robbie Neilson’s side, looking lethargic and slow in central midfield. The only time he hit the headlines was for all the wrong reasons, sent off inside five minutes of a 4-1 home defeat to Bradford in October – the quickest dismissal in League One this season.

The question now is where does the one-time England Under-18 prospect go from here? Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce is clearly not a fan, freezing Tshibola out as soon as he replaced Roberto di Matteo at the helm a year ago.

Tshibola was loaned out to Nottingham Forest in January but, like his spell at MK Dons, started badly and quickly fell out of favour.

With Financial Fair Play restrictions meaning Villa may be forced to sell in order to raise funds in January, finding a buyer for this misfit midfielder is surely high on Bruce’s list of priorities.

Villa are dreaming if they think they can recoup that £5 million however.
