Newcastle United fans are not exactly best pleased with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta’s comments about Steve Bruce.
Backing for Bruce
Bruce left Newcastle earlier this week and open his exit he talked openly about how the fierce criticism of him had taken its toll.
Arteta spoke passionately about Bruce in an interview with Sky Sports.
But Newcastle fans were left stunned by the Arsenal man’s comments.
“I was shocked with the way he expressed himself,” Arteta, who is on a £96,000-a-week contract (Goal), said
“He’s one of the most important managers that England has had in the last 100 years, I would say. It’s something to reflect and think about.”
Newcastle fans have faced a fair amount of criticism themselves since Bruce’s statement.
And they were widely in agreement that Arteta’s hyperbole was hardly helping the situation.
Will Bruce return?
Whether Bruce will step back into management remains to be seen.
The job he has done at Newcastle has largely divided opinion.
While many Newcastle fans never truly believed he was the right man for the club, many pundits have suggested that his record at St. James’ Park was credible.
Bruce led Newcastle to two mid-table finishes during his time there, although they have started the new campaign poorly.
The Magpies are currently in 19th place in the Premier League table, having taken just three points from their opening eight games.
