Said Benrahma is ‘getting closer’ to making his full Premier League debut, with David Moyes admitting that the West Ham United winger is building up his match fitness, while speaking to Football London.

So far, the Brentford loanee has just one minute of top-flight football to his name.

Benrahma came off the bench to make the briefest of cameo appearances in last week’s unfortunate 2-1 defeat to leaders Liverpool.

Saturday’s clash with an improving Fulham side may come too soon for the deadline day signing. But it won’t be long before Benrahma is in contention for a place in Moyes’ starting XI.

“We have good competition which I am really happy with, Said is part of that. He is getting closer to match fitness. He will be in and around the squad again,” the Scot explained.

Benrahma might have ripped the Championship to shreds during his time at Brentford, producing 17 goals and nine assists in a stunning 2019/20 campaign, but the skillful wide man will have to be patient as he awaits an opportunity at the London Stadium.

Pablo Fornals has made the left-wing role his own after a difficult start to life in England and Moyes has been effusive in his praise of the hard-working Spaniard.

Benrahma, however, offers far more of a goal threat when drifting in from the flank on his lethal right boot.

The Algerian’s 17 goals last season are more than Fornals has produced in five years of first-team football for West Ham, Villarreal and Malaga respectively.
